For the same reasons it is recommended that boys learn “penis”, “testicles”, and “scrotum”, girls should be taught “vulva”, “vagina”, “clitoris”. Vulva is the proper term for the whole female genital area. One issue that a lot of experts pay significant attention to is the importance of teaching proper names for body parts. I was doing some research about appropriate, comprehensive sex education. In part, this occurred to me because I realize we don’t even own “vulva”. It occurred to me the other day that maybe we’re not ready to take back the cunt. I’d love to embrace “cunt” the same way, but I don’t know anyone who uses the word in my social network (other than myself). I see this as a good thing, because it means my will in standing up for myself and my shit is seen by others, who label it as being “bitchy”. I get referred to as a bitch pretty frequently. Inga advocates for the reclamation of the word, the same way the GLBTQ community has reclaimed “queer”. Even my closest friends who hear me spew random combinations of four letter words in time of frustration (fuckshit! goddamnmotherfucking shit!) still reprimand me for breaking out the mother of all curses: cunt. It surprises me still that when people hear it, they flinch as though they’d been smacked in the head with a newspaper. It did me a lot of good, not the least of which desensitized me to the use of the word. This edition is fully revised with updated resources, a new foreword from sexual pioneer Betty Dodson, and a new afterword by the author. Sending out a call for every woman to be the Cuntlovin' Ruler of Her Sexual Universe, Muscio stands convention on its head by embracing all things cunt-related.

In this fully revised edition, she explores, with candidness and humor, such traditional feminist issues as birth control, sexuality, jealousy between women, and prostitution with a fresh attitude for a new generation of women. Inga Muscio traces the road from honor to expletive, giving women the motivation and tools to claim "cunt" as a positive and powerful force in their lives. An ancient title of respect for women, the word "cunt" long ago veered off this noble path.
